How to reduce felt recoil
  • 01Correct length of pull and a quality recoil pad
  • 02A little more total weight or a milder load
  • 03Solid shoulder contact and practice from realistic positions

Two-minute rifle fit

Measure from the inside of the elbow crease to the outer joint of the index finger. This is a rough fitting rule, not a precise measurement. Winter clothing subtracts approximately 1 cm; check the fit with your own clothing and a qualified professional.

Length-of-pull starting point33.5–34.5 cm

Measured from the trigger to the centre of the butt pad

Always check this with an unloaded rifle
  • 01

The rifle mounts naturally without stretching your neck towards the scope.

  • 02

The pad of your trigger finger reaches the trigger without changing your grip.

  • 03

You can cycle the bolt without touching your face and have correct eye relief.

  • 04

The fit works when sitting, kneeling and wearing the clothing you actually hunt in.

The estimate uses SAAMI's momentum model with gas velocity estimated at 1.75 times projectile velocity. Load data are illustrations, not reloading recipes. Gas redirection by brakes or suppressors is not modelled. Felt recoil is also affected by stock geometry, recoil pad, suppressor/muzzle brake, clothing, shooting position and individual sensitivity.
